In partnership with SCAG, Dr. Jones will represent the Center before the Malibu City Council to help launch Malibu’s year-long Earthquake Resilience Initiative. The goal of the Initiative, in partnership with SCAG, is to increase the community’s resiliency, or ability to respond and recover, to a large earthquake, which will lead to reduced casualties and damage, and a shorter recovery period. The Initiative will include creating an inventory of soft-story buildings and identifying incentives for property owners to improve the seismic safety of these and other vulnerable structures. Throughout the year, the City will also work to reduce non-structural earthquake hazards, conduct public outreach, update emergency plans, and hold Community Emergency Response Team (#CERT) trainings. The meeting will take place at Malibu City Hall.
