Managing the Disaster – a COVID-19 Virtual Forum for Los Angeles Nonprofits

On April 13, at 1pm, the Dr. Lucy Jones Center, Center for Nonprofit Management, Southern California Leadership Network, Valley Nonprofit Resources, and Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a special virtual forum for nonprofit leaders in Los Angeles: Managing the Disaster – a COVID-19 Virtual Forum for Los Angeles Nonprofits featuring Dr. Lucy Jones on managing our current pandemic disaster. You can view the virtual forum session recording here.

Dr. Jones provided “the big picture” overview of what’s been happening with the virus in LA County followed by what we’ve learned from previous disasters that will help us get through this. Nonprofits are essential during this response phase and especially during the recovery, and this virtual forum explored those opportunities, as well as how we can support each other.

Through digital breakout group discussions, this interactive virtual forum revealed the role of nonprofits in the response and recovery and how we can support each other. Here is a summary of the Nonprofit Virtual Forum Small Group Responses, which includes more than 40 of the tools and resources nonprofits are turning to in answering two key questions:

  1. What activities or tools are helping your nonprofit to be resilient in this disaster?
  2. As we look to the future, what opportunities are emerging that could be leveraged so that we can work in new ways and better serve our communities?

Thanks to Wells Fargo for their support of this virtual forum.
